Equity Administration - Operational Effectiveness

Speaker Information

Laura Hammond is the Global Stock Plan Communications Program Manager at Amazon, leading internal education and communication campaigns for the company’s diverse employee population. Laura has more than twenty years’ experience developing equity, payroll and accounting processes for high change environments. Prior to Amazon, her experience includes managing equity administration at Tableau Software through their May 2013 IPO and at Corixa Corporation through their 2005 acquisition by GlaxoSmithKline.   She received a BA in Industrial Psychology from Central Washington University and is a Certified Equity Professional (CEP). She is a current board member of the NASPP Seattle Chapter.

Matt McKittrick is a managing director in the Business Solutions Group at Moss Adams. Matt has over 20 years of consulting experience providing a wide range of business process, application and data analytics solutions to help his clients address regulatory and compliance challenges. Matt has formed and lead numerous cross-functional teams comprised of HR, accounting, tax, and data management professionals to solve the myriad of challenges created by regulation over the last two decades. Matt consistently leverages his experience in business process controls, IT audit, data management and application development to help his clients build comprehensive, resilient, auditable, and well documented solutions to address recordkeeping and regulatory challenges.  

Over the last decade, Matt has dedicated much of his career to solving complex employee stock-based compensation data conversion, accounting and tax challenges. He is a Certified Equity Professional and has deep experience working with the major equity administration platforms (Charles Schwab, E*TRADE, Fidelity, Solium, Certent, and Morgan Stanley). Matt specializes in addressing high risk merger/divestiture/corporate transaction support, data conversion/setup due to vendor/platform changes, federal income tax provision setup, and implementing US and global tax mobility tracking functionality.

Over the last five years, Matt has also spearheaded the utilization of advanced data visualization tools (Tabl
eau and Power BI) in the financial accounting and stock based compensation industry. These tools have helped his clients further unlock the value of their data by enabling them to quickly monitor trends and risks as well and identify and correct gaps and errors within their underlying data platform.

These demands put extraordinary pressure on all of the teams, including stock administration, legal, finance, human resources, IT, payroll, and even the equity service vendors. Hear about some different approaches from issuers and consultants that have helped improve operational efficiency and reduced stress. Learn about how companies are increasingly utilizing data visualization and advanced analytics tools to increase both the efficiency and effectiveness of their equity programs. This includes leveraging tools like Tableau that can take the information from baseline spreadsheets and turn them into effect operational dashboards. Listen to the panelists discuss various examples of areas where they achieve operational efficiencies and the approach/ tools they use to address and monitor them. The team will discuss their approaches to using tools in their respective roles, share challenges they faced, insights gained, and some plans going forward. Expect to see some examples and ideas that you can leverage at your own companies. The goal will be to highlight a range of approaches and analytics in practice throughout the presentation, from insightful graphics in spreadsheets to the use of data visualization tools trending in the industry today.
