Speaker Information

Brett Rhodes, Senior Manager | Ernst & Young LLP

Brett is a Senior Manager in the Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) practice in Dallas, focusing on various technical accounting topics and practice development. 

He has deep knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS in numerous technical accounting topics, such as share-based payments, earnings per share, deferred compensation, retirement and postemployment benefits, business combinations, financial instruments, leases, income taxes and revenue recognition. His experience includes a variety of industries, including energy, retail & consumer products, aerospace & defense, real estate, and asset management. Brett has significant involvement in resolving technical accounting questions and consultations for hundreds of clients, including Fortune 100 companies and Global 360 accounts spanning a variety of industries and across all regions within the Americas.

Brett holds a BBA and Masters of Accountancy from Abilene Christian University, CPA (2006), member of the AICPA and Fort Worth chapter of the TSCPA. 

Chris Tenn, Senior | Ernst & Young LLP

Chris is a Senior in Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) practice at Ernst & Young LLP (EY). 

He is knowledgable of US GAAP in numerous areas, including share-based payments, earnings per share, compensation, business combinations, consolidation, deconsolidation and discontinued operations, financial instruments, bankruptcy and liquidations, and revenue recognition. He has assisted with purchase accounting for a large, multi-national manufacturer, including opening balance sheet, divestiture, measurement period adjustments, Day 2 accounting, and pushdown. He has also provided IPO readiness and audit assistance to a technology company and assisted the client with purchase price accounting, employee stock awards, and Preferred Share classification. 

Chris received his Master of Accountancy from Colorado State University (2014), an MA in History from Colorado State University (2010) and a BA in History from Florida Gulf Coast University (2006)

Join us for lunch at Charles Schwab to hear an overview of share-based accounting. 
Share-based payment accounting and standard setting updates

The presentation will address the foundations of accounting for share-based payment arrangements in the scope of ASC 718, Compensation – Stock Compensation.  The overall accounting model will be discussed, including consideration of scope, classification, recognition, and measurement.  The impact of the Financial Accounting Standard Board’s (FASB’s) latest accounting standard updates (“ASU”), including ASU 2016-09, 2017-09, and 2018-07, to the share-based payment accounting model will also be highlighted.  The presentation will also provide an overview of certain tax considerations and the advantages and disadvantages of common award types.
