An unprecedented number of businesses in the past year have been forced to liquidate or restructure through bankruptcy as a result of the dismal economy, including Washington Mutual Bank—said to be one of the largest corporate bankruptcies in U.S. history. When a business files for bankruptcy, a number of questions arise with respect to compensation and benefit matters. This panel of experts, including the former Manager of Stock Plan Operations for Washington Mutual, will describe the fundamentals of bankruptcy for compensation professionals. Panelists will also discuss the types of equity plans designed to compensate employees during the bankruptcy process, and considerations for compensation plans upon emergence from bankruptcy.
